Excavation resumes at ancient stepwell ‘linked’ to 1857 rebellion
Sambhal : Excavation team discovers ancient marble-made ‘baoli’ in Chandausi : उत्तर प्रदेशच्या संभलमधील चंदौसीच्या लक्ष्मण गंज परिसरामध्ये अतिक्रमणविरोधी कारवाई करताना तब्बल 150 वर्षे जुनी पायऱ्या असलेली विहीर आढळून आली आहे. याबरोबरच तेथे एक बोगदा देखील आढळला आहे. हा बोगदा कदाचित 1857 च्या ब्रिटीशांच्या विरोधातील बंडाच्या वेळी सुटण्याचा मार्ग म्हणून वापला जात असावा, असा अंदाज लावला जात आहे.
Excavations in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, have unearthed evidence suggesting a Hindu temple was allegedly destroyed and converted into an Islamic structure. A tunnel, treasure, and a historical stepwell were discovered, supporting claims of the temple’s prior existence. The ASI is surveying the site and will submit a report. Officials estimate the stepwell to be over 150 years old.
दरम्यान, ही विहीर आता अतिक्रमण मुक्त करण्यात येणार असल्याची माहिती प्रशासनाकडून देण्यात आली आहे. संभलचे जिल्हाधिकारी राजेंद्र पेन्सिया आणि एसपी कृष्ण कुमार बिश्नोई यांनी रविवारी या घटनास्थळाची पाहणी केली. यानंतर राजेंद्र पेन्सिया यांनी म्हटलं की, “जुनी पायऱ्या असलेली विहीर आढळून आली आहे. 400 चौरस मीटरमध्ये पसरलेली आहे. मात्र, याची महसूलच्या रेकॉर्डमध्ये तलाव म्हणून नोंद आहे. आता नुकसान टाळण्यासाठी उत्खनन करताना काळजीपूर्वक उत्खनन करण्याचं काम सुरु आहे. याबरोबरच या परिसरातील आजूबाजूचं अतिक्रमण देखील काढलं जाईल.”, असं राजेंद्र पेन्सिया यांनी म्हटलं.
दरम्यान, भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षणच्या टीमने या प्रदेशातील 5 मंदिरे आणि 19 विहिरींचं सर्वेक्षण केलं आहे. या सर्वेक्षणामध्ये नव्याने सापडलेल्या जागेचा समावेश आहे. तसेच सर्वेक्षणाची तपासणी जवळपास 10 तास चालली होती. तसेच 24 ठिकाणे कव्हर करण्यात आली आहेत. याबाबत राजेंद्र पेन्सिया यांनी सांगितलं की, “एएसआयचे निष्कर्ष संभलचा समृद्ध ऐतिहासिक वारसा जतन करण्यासाठी पुढील पावले उचलतील.”
तसेच चंदौसी नगरपालिकेचे कार्यकारी अधिकारी कृष्ण कुमार सोनकर यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली या ठिकाणाचं उत्खनन करण्यात येत आहे. आतापर्यंत सुमारे 210 चौरस मीटर परिसर उघड करण्यात आला असून उर्वरित क्षेत्रे उघड करण्यासाठी आणि संरचना पुनर्संचयित करण्यासाठी काळजीपूर्वक काम आहोत, अशी माहिती कृष्ण कुमार सोनकर यांनी दिली असल्याचं वृत्तात म्हटलं आहे.
दरम्यान, बिलारीच्या राजाच्या आजोबांच्या कारकिर्दीत ही पायरी विहीर बांधण्यात आली असावी, असा दावा स्थानिकांचा दावा आहे. या विहिरीच्या संरचनेत तीन स्तर असूनदोन संगमरवरी आणि एक विटांचा स्तर आहे. येथील रहिवाशांचा असा दावा आहे की, हा बोगदा 1958 च्या उठावाचा आहे. जो ब्रिटीश सैन्यातून पळून जाणाऱ्या स्वातंत्र्यसैनिकांसाठी सुटकेचा मार्ग असावा.

Sambhal’s District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya on Sunday confirmed that a ‘baoli’ with an area of 400 square meters has been uncovered. He added that the structure having around four chambers has a few floors made of marble.
Pensiya said, “An area of around 400 square meters, is recorded in the form of Ah-Baoli Talab. It is said that this baoli was built during the time of the king of the grandfather of Bilari’s king. The second and third floor is made up of marble and the upper floors are made of bricks. As we saw (from the excavation), around four chambers are there.
